The United Nations Development Programme in BiH, with UNDP's global network's support, has been helping Bosnia and Herzegovina to attract and use international assistance since 1996. In October 2019, the UNDP BiH officially launched the Accelerator Lab, an initiative aimed at finding solutions to accelerated development in the 21st century. The CO2 offsetting project is an experiment in which the UNDP Accelerator Lab has the role of experiment executor.
App Impact has been contracted to build a web portal that can serve as an application tool to allow testing with a limited number of real users. The experiment should provide an insight into society's interest in incorporating environmental issues into everyday people's decisions and business operations to eliminate harmful emissions.
The project's primary goal is to reduce the carbon footprint emitted from the country by providing a tool that will enable individuals and organizations to calculate their carbon footprint and educate them about the best ways of reducing the carbon footprint. For the second project module, App Impact team has built a system that enables organizations from related industries to create catalogs of products and services and offer them to reduce carbon emissions. On the other side, individuals and organizations interested in carbon footprint reduction will be able to order and purchase a specific product or service that will lower their carbon footprint.
Due to the expected high interest, the App Impact software development team made sure that the portal provides optimal availability. After portal visitors conduct the survey available on www.tvojCO2.ba, UNDP Accelerator Lab will be able to extract the average mission of BiH citizens through generating reports with a few clicks on the system. Through joint efforts of the App Impact and UNDP Accelerator Lab team, we succeeded in delivering impactful messages and rich experience that impelled portal visitors to think about their CO2 usage habits and inspire them to change their practices.
All citizens need to be aware of how much carbon footage we produce as a society, both as individuals and organizations. That is one of the first steps in achieving the SDG (Sustainable Development Goal) 13: Taking urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts. App Impact team is proud and happy to have contributed to creating a solution for one of the biggest climate challenges in our country.
